霍尔顿大厅 is an academic building that houses offices, 教室, and laboratories of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Mining and Mineral Engineering.
In October 2019, 弗吉尼亚理工大学 officials announced that 霍尔顿大厅 would undergo extensive renovations. Construction is expected to last through November 2021. Learn more about the project.
罗伊·杰伊·霍尔登
霍尔顿大厅 is named for 罗伊·杰伊·霍尔登, a professor of geology and geology department head from 1905 to 1945. The noted geologist sited Virginia's first gas well, located water wells when a shortage threatened Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now 弗吉尼亚理工大学), and assessed the safety of the Claytor Lake Dam site. But he forged his true legacy in the classroom, where he stimulated a lifelong scientific interest in his students.
